The canyon provides us with an incomparable backdrop all along the whole trekking route. In the afternoon, we will arrive at the famous Q’eswachaka Suspension Rope Inca bridge, which remains an archaeological feat of construction that was created by the Incas to connect the communities together. Today, we will continue exploring the Apurimac canyon in Peru, hiking to the “Apu Muyu” viewpoint which means “Omnipotent God” in the native language, “Quechua”.This area is full of archaeological relics, both Inca and pre-Inca. It is in the same territory as the ever- impressive backdrop of the Apurimac canyon, which will accompany us all along this trail. Continue our hike through the valley until we arrive at the tombs of the ancient Inca mummies, which even today are surrounded by their burial offerings which have not been looted. Next, we will reach a stone bridge, created naturally by Mother Nature. Cross the bridge and head towards our host family, one of the most authentic homestay options and best responsible tourism in Cusco, for this evening and where a delicious and nutritious lunch awaits us. We will have a free afternoon to rest, accompanied by some local Andean music and some friends from the village, where we can sing and dance to the rhythm of the Peruvian Andes, before resting for the night.
Day 4: Water Ceremony – Cusco (B, L)
This is the final day of our trip in the spectacular Peruvian Andes, and we will bid farewell to an incredible experience, with a traditional water ceremony, which an Andean priest will deliver, one of the most common practices in Quechua communities. He will prepare the sacred, ceramic chalices using water from the local lake for the ceremony, so that we can take it with us to the farmlands for this ancient Andean ritual to the Pachamama, along with some fruits and seeds, which will complete this ceremonial offering. We will also be accompanied by music and song, aromatic herbs and sharing the best of local offerings, to say thank you to the God of the Apu “Rimac” or “The God who speaks”. The reason for these types of ceremonies is to give thanks to The Sacred “Apus” or Gods of the area, for the abundance and fertility in the village during the past season, to protect the villagers and secure another year of prosperity and healthy crops for the coming year. After receiving our blessing, we will have lunch with our local family before taking our 4 hours journey back to Cusco.
